Alex's school

Last night was parent's welcoming night. We were about 40 parents that showed up to meet all teachers and to see our children's class rooms. Coffee and cookies galore was served complementary.

The school seems to be fantastic for the kids and as always the teachers look for parent support and input. Marta signed up as a substitute Spanish teacher and also played with the idea to be in the social group. I told her no, that is to much and they had four families on it all ready. It' s funny how that list always get full first, when it comes to drinking and a great opportunity to show off your house, success etc, people just jump to be able to satisfy their egos. The last list, wasn't even a list just a verbal pledge, is for the school educational board. No one was interested in that but me. I waited until we were about to leave and asked the director of the school how many parents showed some interest in that. Great she said, your the only one.

So now I am on a school educational board. I am excited, if my teachers knew this they would laugh so hard that they choke and die. How ever, now I have all the right to express my concerns over the educational level in this state, because I will try to make it better. I am on the board you know!

Tired

I don't know why I am so tired today. Went to bed in normal time, had some nightmares and Fia didn't wake up, she is teething, K9s are incoming.

Marta and the kids went to Alex's new school for a play date at Sullivan Island park. There were a few stuck up moms as expected but overall pretty good, Marta said. We are the poor people at the school. You can't find a house on Sullivan for less than 2 million.

And for tonight, last race for the summer, it is a sad feeling that summer is gone. And there is no darn wind yet either.

SC education part 2

Since I am on the subject check her out.

I don't think that she is all that cute either. I guess I'm all for brunets. I do have the cutest blonds at home how ever.

Told you so

Who the hell am I to tell you so? I constanty have doubts about who I am as a father, husband, lover, you name it. All the bad names I do deserve. But http://www.charleston.net/news/2007/aug/25/head_head14030/ I told you so, I told you so, I told you so.

Uncle John

Have I ever told you about uncle John? He is a great big guy with way too much patience for me. The kids love him, my wife loves him. That by the way is scary as hell because it's her brother. What I'm getting at is that my wife just took off to do some girl time and I do not like it at this hour. I let her go since she was all about it, like I never been. All I can hear is Johns" come on man".

One of these days I will tape his expressions and you will know what I am talking about. Just don't ever think about serving him tequila.

Celing fan

Last night I helped an old friend hang fans. We have known each other for many years and he is back in town after a work sting in Alabama. We got the fans hung and then headed to the local biker bar, Richard's. We ate their famous, or should I say infamous, burger and the jukebox started to play Sweet Home Alabama.

He started to laugh and talked about their stay in that state. There will be some very inspired blogs about southern living the more we hang out. Just wait.

Jonas Alexander

Beautiful name isn't it? Why do I bring that up? Am I totally bored at work so all I do is to play with my family's names to come up with the ultimate Berg name? Hell no, I got plenty to do, boring at times but still.

Apparently a couple who we are acquainted with have. They just had their first born, BIG CONGRATS, and named him Jonas Alexander. I am shocked and flattered at the same time. I had little idea that our family has influenced the south even just a little bit.

Look out Charleston, the Europeans are marching in.

Weekend plans.
1. Build a viking ship (Katie Too will do).
2. Purchase a pirate flag.
3. Assemble the crew, myself, Alex, Fia and Milu
4. Storm Fort Sumter.
5. Claim the Low country and declare it Bergtown.

SC education

For all of you who constantly hear me whine over the poor education level of this state, read this.

I'm not kidding, he is not the only one. A bit extreme but I am faced with this daily. Did I mention that South Carolina is #49 out of 50? When all goes to hell in a handbag, guess who's sitting there pissing and moaning. That would be Mr. Bowens crying over that the poor education his children got made them criminals and now they are in jail. My blood is boiling over this, I guess I don't understand "parental responsibilities" that Mr. Bowens is so good at.

Thanks Marta for getting Alex in to a private Montessori School. If I just could find a way to pay for it.

Atlas Copco

Their parts department is in Rock Hill,SC. In other words 3 hours away. They did not only manage to send the wrong part, they also sent it ground instead of red. Can it be that they only have inbreed natives working or could it be that they have a Swede with his super boots still on as a manager. If they do, he has to take them off because that won't fly in SC.

I'm sick and tired of having natives tell me: It will be sometime tomorrow Boo. I can't freaking believe it.

This is another crap day, thank goodness there's a race tonight. All we need is some wind.

Disaster at work

The compressor is down. That means that all our tools do not work. Crap! I have all my boys do stupid stuff. Like sweeping the floor for the fifth time. To top it off the forklift also broke. The wheel busted. Who ever came up with the idea to buy Swedish made items when you are to operate in the South should get smacked. Hard, really hard. Note to readers, if you are to manufacture in USA, do not buy Atlas Copco or Atlet. Good machinery they are but try to find a spare part when you need it. Or someone to work on it for that matter.

This is indeed going to be an interesting day for me.

Fia's new bed

This weekend we spent some time to get Fia's room together. She is no longer in a crib. It is a little early for her to be in a big bed but her brother has one so she wants one. She was so excited yesterday when she realized what was happening. She put on a million dollar smile.

According to mom she had the same smile this morning when she came in to our bedroom herself. Amazing what a bit of freedom can do to change ones morning attitude.

Bourne ultimatum

Grandpa and grandma are baby sitting tonight so we went to the movies. The movie starts and after 1/2 an hour we have this conversation.

Marta; Do you think he died?

Jonas; Honey, we're 1/2 an hour in to the movie, I don't think so.

Marta; Why not?

Jonas; Why would he die, they have nothing else to come up with to make this movie interesting. It is # 3 you know.

Marta; I know, but I think he dies. Oh no, look, he didn't.

Jonas; Honey, I love you!

Marta; I love you too, pooks.

Daisy

She is a white German Shepard that we are dog sitting this weekend. She belongs to a good friend of Marta. Daisy is a really sweet dog but she has to be right next to you at all times. Needless to say we tripped on her all day yesterday and that results in a lot of yelling at Daisy. The poor thing will be totally messed up by Monday.

Wednesdays race was abandoned, thank you very much Tohidu, we all know who did it.

Bug blaster

One of the more annoying things with the South is bugs. All kinds of nasty little, and some big, creatures. Last night Tony The Bug Blaster came to our house for a quarterly treatment. It is supposedly safe for children and dogs but kills off roaches and ants etc. His motto is "blast em all". And so he does and we are thankful.

Soccer

Mom got Alex in to soccer this fall at Isle of Palms. It is nuts how many people are there for just a few spots. He starts in September. Very exciting.

Other than that this weekend we attended Cooper River Marina's annual customer appreciation day, it was a barbecue with all the fixing's. The pig was delicious but the kids preferred to throw rocks, Alex hit a guy in the forehead, I felt really proud of him at that moment.

Thunder

I can hear thunder in the distance. I hope it starts to rain;

1. Cools everything off.
2. I can't mow the grass.

After that I am to help my wife with her work. Then a good dinner, sausage, grilled veggies and scalloped potatoes. I might have a beer too. A good night story and then we are done for today.

Good racing

Last night we did a great race for us, a fifth might not seem all that good but with light winds we worked that boat all we could. We made the right choices on the course and had great sail handling all night. It was extremely hot however, I lost 5 pounds on fore deck. Completely soaked, wore a gray T-shirt as well, not good in this heat.

Finished of the night with a cold one at the yacht club.

The heat is on!

It is hot. Record heat warning this week. You just stand outside and according to our local newspaper it takes 90 seconds to break a sweat. Not at all like where I grew up.

Right now i do look forward to fall.

Capers island

Just north of Isle of Palms is Deewees and Capers Island. A local hot spot that you can only get to by boat. So we did yesterday thanks to friend of ours. Both kids jumped in the water off the boat with life jackets on. With the tide running one had to pay close attention.

We got invited to our friends new pool and hamburgers after the boat ride and it was great. The pool was so refreshing, it was 110 degrees with the heat index factored in. Hot, hot. hot!

In the car back both of them fell asleep, an early night for all of us. way to short of a weekend.

Ribs

Dedicating today to smoke ribs. Slow smoked, started 8.30 this morning. I hope they are done at 7.00. I'll let you know.

Peanutman

Last night at the ballgame the famous Tony was there. He is one character. We had a good time, it is so much fun to go with the kids, they take it all in and find a lot of new friends to play with.

As always we got home a bit late.

Thursday, August 2, 2007

Thursday night.

The kids and I are to see this team play tonight. I will load everyone in my wifes car after work, pack the backpack full with PJ's and juice boxes and all else necessary. We will have hot dogs and boiled peanuts, a local tradition that is surprisingly tasteful. I hope to hear Tony the peanut man sing. A cople of animal balloons might be in line too.

Wednesday night

I just love to sail. Wednesday night racing is a great way to take ones mind of daily issues. Higly recommended.

Day 1.

First day blogging, a new chapter for me. I hope to make this blog entertaining for you readers out there.
